evaluation/staging of pelvic organ prolapse
Two main systems are used for staging the degree of pelvic organ prolapse:
- Baden-Walker system
- grade 0 - normal position for each respective site, no prolapse
- grade 1 - descent halfway to the hymen
- grade 2 - descent to the hymen
- grade 3 - descent halfway past the hymen
- grade 4 - maximal possible descent for each site
- pelvic organ prolapse–quantification
- stage 0 – no prolapse
- stage I - > 1 cm above the hymen
- stage 2 - ≤ 1 cm proximal or distal to the plane of the hymen
- stage 3 - > 1 cm below the plane of the hymen, but protrudes no farther than 2 cm less than the total vaginal length
- stage 4 - eversion of the lower genital tract is complete
