The differential diagnosis of acute cholecystitis is:
- gastric and duodenal ulcer
- hepatitis - viral or drug-related
- acute pancreatitis:
- tenderness usually more widespread
- can occur concurrently with cholecystitis
- confirmed with serum amylase
- gallbladder cancer
- hepatic abscess
- Fitz-Hugh-Curtis syndrome
- right lower lobar pneumonia
- angina pectoris/myocardial infarction (1)
- inflamed hepatic flexure carcinoma
- diverticular disease of hepatic flexure
- perforation of duodenal ulcer (1)
