- incidence is estimated at 9000 - 10,000 per annum in England and Wales
- squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) is rare in patients under 60 years of age
unless immunosuppressed
- commonest locations for SCCs:
- both sexes - back of hands, face
- men - scalp and ears
- women - lower legs
- risk factors
- lifetime excessive sun exposure
- multiple actinic keratoses
- poor tanning ability
- fair skin
- transplant recipients
