The causes of acute interstitial nephritis include:
- idiopathic
- obstructive nephropathy
- drug hypersensitivity:
- all antibiotics, especially:
- penicillins
- cephalosporins
- sulphonamides
- aminoglycosides
- all diuretics
- all non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs
- infection:
- pyogenic
- leptospirosis
- brucella
- Hante virus haemorrhagic fever
- inflammatory/immunological:
- SLE
- Sjogren's syndrome
- sarcoid
- vasculitis
- malignant disease:
- myeloma kidney
- metabolic:
- hypercalcaemia
- hypokalaemia
- urate nephropathy
