The main drugs used in the treatment of re-entrant supraventricular tachycardia are:

  • adenosine:
    • a potent inhibitor of the atrioventricular node
    • interupts the re-entrant circuit
    • is short acting

  • verapamil:
    • inhibits the atrioventricular node
    • should not be given with beta-blockers

Other drugs which may be effective include:

  • flecainide
  • sotalol
  • disopyramide
