Neonatal haemorrhage can have a variety of causes, ranging from defective clotting cascade, either as a result of deficiency or of overuse, as in disseminated intravascular coagulation, to haemorrhage secondary to infection. Note that the bleeding may present as frank blood in vomit, with blood in the stool, or failure to stop bleeding after venepuncture or purpura.
