screening

- screening
- patients are generally not screened in the community unless they are undergoing treatment (because the organism can be part of normal human flora)
- if screening is appropriate, a screen should be performed 48 hours after a course of treatment has been completed
- in outbreak situations patients may need to be screened. Advice will be given by the Infection Control Team
- screen consists of:
- nose swab (one swab can be used to swab both nostrils)
- groin (one swab can be used to swab both groins)
- lesion/wound (a separate swab should be taken of all wounds/lesions)
