  • screening
    • patients are generally not screened in the community unless they are undergoing treatment (because the organism can be part of normal human flora)
    • if screening is appropriate, a screen should be performed 48 hours after a course of treatment has been completed
    • in outbreak situations patients may need to be screened. Advice will be given by the Infection Control Team
    • screen consists of:
      • nose swab (one swab can be used to swab both nostrils)
      • groin (one swab can be used to swab both groins)
      • lesion/wound (a separate swab should be taken of all wounds/lesions)
