treatment

If atrial tachycardia is a sign of digoxin toxicity then stop digoxin and treat accordingly.

Potassium should be measured and maintained at 4-5 mmol/l.

Further treatment of atrial tachycardia may divided into three sections:

  • termination of the atrial tachycardia:
    • disopyramide (IA)
    • flecainide (IC)
    • amiodarone (III)
    • DC cardioversion

  • control of the ventricular rate:
    • digoxin (unless digoxin toxic already)
    • verapamil (IV)
    • beta-blockers (II)

  • prophylaxis:
    • disopyramide (IA)
    • flecainide (IC)
    • amiodarone (III)
