There are a number of genetic conditions which are associated with craniosynostosis, including:
- Apert's syndrome
- Crouzon's syndrome
- Carpenter's syndrome
- Pfeiffer's syndrome
- Chotzen's syndrome
Other causes include:
- overtreatment of congenital hypothyroidism, resulting in premature fusion of the sutures.
- severe rickets and hypophostphatasia
