There are a number of genetic conditions which are associated with craniosynostosis, including:

  • Apert's syndrome
  • Crouzon's syndrome
  • Carpenter's syndrome
  • Pfeiffer's syndrome
  • Chotzen's syndrome

Other causes include:

  • overtreatment of congenital hypothyroidism, resulting in premature fusion of the sutures.
  • severe rickets and hypophostphatasia
