Common associated conditions are:

  • sliding hiatus hernia
  • pyloric stenosis
  • pregnancy

Less common associations are:

  • diabetic neuropathy
  • scleroderma

Study evidence has emphasized the significance of lifestyle factors (1)

  • these predisposing lifestyle factors include:
    • obesity
    • smoking
    • alcohol
    • large, late meals (1)
