Reversible neurological symptoms include:

  • peripheral neuropathy:
    • requires transplantation

  • pruritus:
    • responds to oral antihistamines

  • restless legs:
    • responds to clonazepam (0.5 mg p.r.n.)

  • carpal tunnel syndroem:
    • requires surgical decompression

Dementia is usually irreversible. Desferrioxamine, which reduces aluminium levels in the brain, may be beneficial.
