complications

Possible complications of puerperal infection include:

  • formation of a pelvic abscess
  • pelvic thrombophlebitis
  • paralytic ileus
  • disseminated intravascular coagulation
  • septic shock
  • subsequent infertility
  • salpingitis, pelvic cellulitis and pelvic peritonitis - very rarely seen today because of early administration of antibiotics.
