The passage of bile from gallbladder to duodenum is dependent upon:
- cholecystokinin:
- released by the upper intestinal mucosa on contact with digestion products
- stimulates:
- gallbladder contraction
- relaxation of sphincter of Oddi
- vagus nerve efferent signals
- less potent a stimulus than CCK
- occurs in response to anticipation and presence of food
- similar stimulatory effects to CCK
