Cholecystokinin is a gastrointestinal hormone secreted by the duodenum following a lipid-rich meal.

Functions:

  • stimulates secretion of pancreatic enzymes
  • stimulates gallbladder contraction
  • relaxes sphincter of Oddi
  • inhibits gastric emptying
  • stimulates small bowel motility
  • enhances secretin stimulation of pancreatic bicarbonate secretion

Its release is inhibited by bile acids.
