serous ovarian tumours

These account for about 20-50% of ovarian tumours. Histologically, papilliferous patterns are common. They are bilateral in 30% of cases. Commonly occur in women 30-40 years of age.

Benign serous cystadenomas:

  • 60% of serous tumours
  • 25% of all benign ovarian tumours
  • 100% 10 year survival

Borderline serous tumours:

  • 10% of serous tumours
  • 75% 10 year survival

Malignant serous cystadenocarcinoma:

  • 30% of serous tumours
  • 40-50% of all malignant ovarian tumours - most common
  • bilateral in 65% of cases
  • 15% 10 year survival as often widely disseminated at time of diagnosis
