emollient use in psoriasis

  • an emollient hydrates and thus softens the scaly, hyperkeratotic surface of the psoriatic plaques

  • it is an active but weak treatment for psoriasis

  • the twice-daily application of emollients such as yellow soft paraffin or aqueous cream led to a reduction in itching, soreness, redness, scaling, and lesional extension in about 35% of patients (1)
