preterm premature rupture of membranes (P - PROM)

This is defined as rupture of membranes occurring after 20 and before 37 completed weeks of gestation. This event occurs in up to 8% of pregnancies.
The principle complications of premature rupture of membranes are:
- ascending infection
- cord prolapse
- premature labour
