reasons for recurrent VTE despite anticoagulation
The following conditions are associated with an increased risk for recurrent thromboembolism despite anticoagulation:
- anatomic compression (i.e. May-Thurner syndrome, Thoracic Outlet syndrome,
etc.)
- antiphospholipid syndrome
- cancer
- dysfibrinogenemia
- heparin-induced thrombocytopenia
- myeloproliferative Neoplasm-uncontrolled (e.g. Polycythemia Vera, Essential
Thrombocythemia)
- paroxysmal Nocturnal Hemoglobinuria
- subtherapeutic anticoagulation (1)
