Indications for specialist referral
A specialist should be consulted in the following situations:
- in case where the diagnosis is in doubt
- widespread hair loss, including alopecia totalis and alopecia universalis
- in pregnant or breastfeeding women
- if secondary care treatments are more appropriate
- when topical treatment started in primary care is not effective
- if a wig is required
