statin and fibrate combination therapy

- for most people with both elevated cholesterol and triglycerides, treatment should still commence with a statin
- if persistent hypertriglyceridaemia is present after LDL targets are achieved, a combination of a statin with a fibrate (using fenofibrate, bezafibrate, or ciprofibrate) can be considered on specialist advice
Notes:
- gemfibrozil should not be used in combination with a statin
- if a statin–fibrate combination is used, then monitoring of CK and ALT is appropriate
