clinical features of HONK

This diagnosis should be considered in patients with:
- hyperglycaemia
- dehydration with marked thirst
- marked drowsiness
The patient is often old and may be presenting for the first time.
Other features include:
- convulsions
- coma
- focal CNS signs
This condition predisposes to thrombosis.
Hyperventilation is not a feature of HONK.
