aetiology

Causes include:
- normal variation or familial trait
- disproportionate growth in chronic conditions, for example achondroplasia, sickle cell anaemia, rickets, failure to thrive
- hydrocephalus
- craniostenosis
- enlarged brain - ie macroencephaly
- Sotos' syndrome
