buffalo hump

A buffalo hump is a term used to describe a particular appearance of patients with hypercortisolism - ie Cushing's syndrome. It describes the deposition of fat at the top of the back, where, in a buffalo, there is a characteristic hump.
It is not a term which should be used in front of patients, since it is easily misconstrued as a term of abuse.
