lobar bronchus (right inferior lobe)

Last reviewed 01/2018

The right inferior lobar bronchus is a branch of the right principal bronchus that originates at the hilum of the right lung within the lung parenchyma. It divides into five segmental bronchi:

  • apical segmental bronchus; supplies apical bronchopulmonary segment
  • medial basal segmental bronchus; supplies medial basal bronchopulmonary segment
  • anterior basal segmental bronchus; supplies anterior basal bronchopulmonary segment
  • lateral basal segmental bronchus; supplies lateral basal bronchopulmonary segment
  • posterior basal segmental bronchus; supplies posterior basal bronchopulmonary segment

In this manner, the pattern of lobar bronchi in the right inferior lobe closely mirrors the left side.
