olsalazine

This is two molecules of mesalazine that are joined by an azo bond.
Indications include:
- patients who do not tolerate sulphasalazine
- patient allergic to sulphonamides
- men with inflammatory bowel disease who wish to start a family (sulphalazine causes reversible infertility)
Side effects:
- diarrhoea:
- may be avoided if the dose is gradually increased and the medication is taken with food
