choroid plexus papilloma

A choroid plexus papilloma is a rare, usually benign tumour which arises from the choroid plexus. It has a granular surface and a gritty texture.
In adults, they tend to develop in the fourth ventricle whilst in children, the lateral ventricle is more commonly affected.
Malignant forms may occasionally occur in children.
Presentation is usually with hydrocephalus due to obstruction or to excessive CSF secretion from the tumour.
CT reveals an area of hyperdensity within the ventricular system.
Operative removal is often effective.
