clindamycin

Indications:

  • peritonitis
  • staphylococcal bone and joint infections
  • dental prophylaxis

Cautions:

  • pseudomembranous colitis
  • diarrhoea

NB. Discontinue AT ONCE if either pseudomembranous colitis or diarrhoea develop.

  • impaired hepatic and renal function - clindamycin is excreted in bile and urine

Contra-indications:

  • diarrhoeal states

Side-effects:

  • pseudomembranous colitis
  • diarrhoea
  • nausea and vomiting

Routes of administration:

  • oral:
    • capsules
    • suspension
  • i.m. injection
  • Slow i.v. infusion
