Rare causes of Charcot joints include:

  • yaws
  • cord lesion, e.g. trauma, meningomyelocoele, subacute combined degeneration of the cord
  • congenital neuropathies, e.g. Charcot-Marie-Tooth, Refsum's disease
  • repeated intra-articular injections of steroids
