appendix tumours

Last reviewed 01/2018

Appendiceal tumours are rare.

The most common neoplasm is the carcinoid tumour which accounts for 85% of all tumours at this site.

Benign tumours are very rare and include adenomatous polyps, mucous cystadenomas, leiomyomas and neuromas. The secretory action of mucous cystadenomas may distend the appendix to form a mucocoele.
