The clavicle, Latin for 'little key', is commonly referred to as the 'collar bone'. Bilaterally, it is a relatively slender, curved bone that sits astride the superior part of the thorax. Typically, it is 13-15cm in length and generally longer in the male.
Each clavicle articulates with the scapula laterally and the manubrium of the sternum medially. They act to project the shoulders away from the chest.
Fractures of the clavicle are relatively common injuries.
Clavicular is the adjective for things relating to the clavicle.
