aortic arch anomalies

Last reviewed 01/2018

Possible aortic arch anomalies include:

  • right aortic arch
  • double aortic arch
  • aberrant subclavian artery
  • aberrant innominate artery

The anomalies listed above may lead to tracheal and/or oesophageal obstruction. A right aortic arch alone does not cause obstruction but may form a ring when associated with a left ductus passing behind the oesophagus to the right arch.

Associated anomalies include:

  • coarctation of the aorta
  • patent ductus arteriosus
