Primary mediastinal tumours are uncommon. The more common ones include:
- dermoid cysts:
- most common
- neurogenic tumours:
- arising from nerve cells:
- neuroblastoma
- ganglioneuroma
- phaeochromocytoma
- arising from nerve sheaths:
- neurilemmoma
- neurosarcoma
- neurofibroma
- thymoma
- other very rare tumours:
- lipoma and liposarcoma
- haemangioma
- benign and malignant mesenchymal tumours of the heart
- mesothelioma of the pericardium
