fructose biphosphate aldolase

Last reviewed 01/2018

Fructose biphosphate aldolase is an enzyme used in:

  • glycolysis to convert fructose-1,6-biphosphate into glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate and dihydroxyacetone phosphate
  • gluconeogenesis to convert glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate and dihydroxyacetone phosphate into fructose-1,6-biphosphate

Hence, 2 triose molecules are produced for each hexose substrate, and vice versa.
