CAPD is administered as follows:
- instill two litres of dialysate through the dialysis catheter over 10 minutes
- clamp catheter and leave dialysate to equilibrate over 6-10 hours
- drain and discard
- repeat for a total of 3-4 exchanges per day, 7 days per week
