acute rejection

  • rejection reaches a peak 1-6 months after transplantation.
  • patient may be asymptomatic.
  • rejection is the result of infiltration of non- activated lymphocytes and mononuclear cells of the lymphoid type which cause interstitial oedema and vascular changes in the graft.
  • regular endomyocardial biopsy is required in order to confirm or eliminate diagnosis of rejection.
