  • delayed wound healing
  • impaired immune function
  • reduced mobilisation
  • reduced response to therapy

  • increased susceptibility to infection and pressure sores

Long term:

  • increased morbidity
  • prolonged hospitalisation
  • prolonged convalescence
  • increased mortality
