first (1st) branchial arch artery (embryology)

The first branchial arch arteries are the first of the branchial arch arteries to form. As expected from their name, they form within the first pair of branchial arches. They regress by the end of the fourth week of gestation. After birth, the only remnants of them are the maxillary arteries.
