SEVEN - CARDIAC BRONCHOPULMONARY SEGMENT OF THE RIGHT INFERIOR LOBE

The medial basal bronchopulmonary segment of the right inferior lobe is supplied by the medial basal segmental bronchus, a branch of the right inferior lobar bronchus. All of its surfaces are enclosed by surrounding lung parenchyma except the medial surface which forms part of the surface of the cardiac impression on the mediastinal surface of the lung.

Posteriorly, from medial to lateral are the posterior basal and lateral basal bronchopulmonary segments. Alternatively, in about half of the population a subapical segment is present which forms the posterosuperior border of this segment.

Laterally is the anterior basal bronchopulmonary segment.

Anterosuperiorly is the oblique fissure and medial segment of the middle lobe. Superiorly is the right lung hilum. Inferiorly is the diaphragm.
