In tumours associated with the MEN-1 syndrome there is a deletion of a tumour suppressor gene on chromosome 11.
30-40% of somatotroph tumours have a mutation in the gsp oncogene which codes for the alpha subunit of Gs; elevation of intracellular cAMP seems to play a role in secretory overactivity.
