Causes of patchy hypomelanosis include:
- congenital:
- tuberose sclerosis
- piebaldism - partial albinism
- naevus depigmentosus
- Waardenburg's syndrome
- acquired:
- post-inflammatory:
- scarring for example, burns, chicken pox
- discoid lupus erythematosus
- eczema, especially in negroes
- pityriasis alba
- infection:
- leprosy
- pityriasis versicolor
- pinta
- immunological:
- vitiligo.
- halo naevus - circulating antimelanoma antibody
- toxins:
- phenolic disinfectants
- hydroquinones
