Coronary artery vasospasm has been angiographically documented in atherosclerotic vessels in association with ischaemic heart disease.
It is rare for vasospasm to occur in vessels having no atherosclerotic changes.
Vasospasm may contribute to fissuring or rupture of atherosclerotic plaques with thrombus formation.
