Balint's syndrome is usually caused by bilateral parieto- occipital damage.
Recognised causes of Balint's syndrome include:
- widespread bilateral lesions of the perieto-occipital cortex:
- stroke
- trauma
- tumour
- Alzheimer's disease
- Creutzfeld-Jacob disease
- damage to posterior white matter:
- progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy
- adrenoleukodystrophy
- rarely thalamic lesions
