A case of AIDS is defined as an illness characterised by HIV infection and one or more of the diseases below:

  • cryptosporidiosis
  • pneumocystosis
  • toxoplasmosis
  • strongyloidosis
  • candidiasis
  • cryptococcosis
  • coccidioidomycosis
  • histoplasmosis
  • mycobacteriosis
  • nocardiosis
  • salmonella
  • cytomegalovirus activation
  • herpes simplex virus activation
  • varicella zoster virus activation
  • progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy
  • Burkitt's lymphoma
  • immunoblastic lymphomas (B cells)
  • primary CNS lymphoma
