osteoblastoma

An osteoblastoma is a very similar lesion to the osteoid osteoma, and the major distinction is the size and site of the tumour.
Osteoblastoma is principally found in short or flat bones, for example the vertebrae and the hands and feet. It is a disease affecting males and females equally, around the ages 10-30.
Histologically they are very similar to the osteoid osteoma, apart from their size which is generally greater than 1 cm.
Radiologically, there is evidence for expansion of the osteoblastoma within an intact shell of reactive bone.
Treatment is by excision.
