These are the most common pigmented lesions of caucasian children. They are ubiquitous and benign.
They are a result of increased melanin production by a normal number of melanocytes within the skin.
Each freckle is a small (typically 1-10mm), flat macule. They can be pale to dark brown in colour.
They appear in early childhood after sun exposure, fade and reappear in response to similar activities.
