The following diseases have a similar presentation to Kawasaki disease and should be excluded:
- staphylococcal infection:
- scalded skin syndrome
- toxic shock syndrome
- streptococcal infection:
- scarlet fever
- toxic shock-like syndrome
- Kawasaki disease is not excluded by the culture of a group A streptococcus from the throat
- measles
- leptospirosis
- rickettsial disease
- Stevens-Johnson syndrome
- drug reaction
- juvenile rheumatoid arthritis
toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN)
