The prenatal diagnosis of a diaphragmatic hernia will facilitate prompt surgical repair of the defect.

Defects in the urinary tract include:

  • hydronephrosis
  • polycystic kidneys
  • renal agenesis
  • posterior urethral valves with distended bladder

Defects in the anterior abdominal wall may result in omphalocele or gastrochisis.

The absence of a gastric image suggests oesophageal atresia.
