penetrating injuries

Penetrating wounds of the hand, particularly of the palm, are deceptive and need to be carefully assessed.
Check posture, movement, sensation and circulation distally.
Refer:
- injuries over a tendon or joint: risk of serious damage or infection
- all bite wounds: assume they are contaminated and need debridement
- if any possibility of glass or other foreign body in the wound
- high pressure injuries (from tools using compressed air or liquid): tissue damage may be concealed and extensive
